LegalMind
A lawyer's offline AI knowledge base · macOS app
macOS v1.0.0 2026-09-01
What it is
LegalMind is a macOS desktop app for lawyers. Import your private cases, statutes, and internal documents — the AI compiles them locally into a structured personal knowledge base. Fully offline, no network, a privacy contract you can show your clients.
Core features
- Zero network, kernel-enforced: the app does not declare
com.apple.security.network.client. macOS sandbox blocks all network access at the kernel level. You can tell your client: “This isn’t a company promise — it’s enforced by macOS.” - Local inference: built on llama.cpp + open-source legal models, all AI runs on your Mac’s Apple Silicon
- Air-gapped clients supported: in addition to the Mac App Store, ships as an Apple Developer ID-notarized .pkg with stapled receipts — verifiable fully offline
- Karpathy’s LLM Wiki pattern: three-layer knowledge base (raw / wiki / schema), lawyers fully own their templates
- Tool, not guide: LegalMind shows data, the lawyer decides. No recommendations, no summarizations, no predictions, no scoring — just a careful tool that knows its place
Who it’s for
- Solo & small-firm lawyers: years of accumulated cases / notes, want AI to accelerate search and connection — but must not upload material to the cloud
- Lawyers serving high-sensitivity clients: when the client requires a “data never leaves my machine” guarantee, you can show them the macOS sandbox entitlements page as proof
LegalMind does not
- Upload any data
- Call any cloud LLM
- Require network activation
- “Recommend” or “score” any decision for you
- Operate a template marketplace or community ratings
Status
Phase 1 llama.cpp Swift bridge PoC complete. Apple Developer Program enrollment in progress. Targeting Mac App Store release September 2026.
